Abstract

Objectives: To show the reader, especially the dental community, the current state of university accreditation in the careers in Dentistry in Peru and its importance for assessing the quality of teaching and services provided by an institution. Material and Methods: Literature was searched using various search engines, and articles related to the topic were selected. In addition, laws, decrees, resolutions and legal standards published in the “Diario Oficial El Peruano” were reviewed. Finally, a manual search was conducted in the official websites of the National System of Evaluation, Accreditation and Certification of Educational Quality (SINACE), the National Superintendency of University Education (SUNEDU) and Dentistry Association of Peru (COP). Results: Valuable information was found that clearly describes how the university accreditation system works and the current situation for the careers in Dentistry in Peru. Conclusions: As of August 2016, the status of university accreditation by the SINEACE for careers in Dentistry in Peru is 7% nationally and 10% in Metropolitan Lima.
