Abstract

CHURATA QUISPE, Jhonatan; CORREA QUISPILAYA, Emil  and  RIOS VILLASIS, Katty. Silver nitrate and gingival depigmentation of stain melanics: case report. Rev. Estomatol. Herediana [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.4, pp.242-246. ISSN 1019-4355.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.20453/reh.v27i4.3216.

The melanin pigmentation is a characteristic of the gum that could be considered as unsightly; both by the professional and by the patient. One of the treatments that has shown greater effectiveness is the depigmentation through the use of lasers; However, its high cost limits access in some social strata, therefore, other methods are used, such as: abrasion with diamond cutters, cryosurgery and electrosurgery. Another alternative is the use of silver nitrate that acts by producing coagulation of the epithelium, edema and protein denaturation; allowing an optimal regeneration of the epithelium and achieving an adequate gingival aesthetic. A case report is presented with the use of this technique and its subsequent control for periods up to 18 months after treatment.
