Reading comprehension is a competence that can be formally developed in the educational institution. Objective: Implement a workshop-course to assess its effects on reading comprehension, use of strategies and motivation for reading. Method. 13 students from the psychology degree of a Mexican public university participated. Two instruments were applied before and after the intervention to compare the values of the variables studied. The workshop-course consisted of promoting the use of reading strategies linked to specific levels of understanding: literal, information reorganization, inferential, critical and appreciative. Results. There were increases in reading comprehension, use of strategies and motivation towards reading. The results are discussed taking into account the percentages of student performance, the size of the effect of the intervention and the results of the statistical analyses.
