LEON-AMENERO, Deborah y HUARCAYA-VICTORIA, Jeff. Grief and how to give bad news in medicine. An. Fac. med. [online]. 2019, vol.80, n.1, pp.86-91. ISSN 1025-5583. http://dx.doi.org/10.15381/anales.v80i1.15471.
Death and grief caused by the most diverse losses are common aspects in medical practice. While not all the factors that generate a pathological grief can be controlled, how the news of the loss is given to the person is an important factor, and, therefore, necessary to take into account. Delivering bad news is a frequent task in the medical practice, which can have a negative impact on patients and their families if it is not carried out in an appropriate manner. Despite its importance, several studies have documented that medical students and physicians have not received formal training to be able to give bad news. In this context, the present article seeks to provide physicians and medical students with some precise concepts about loss, grief and how to provide bad news so that they can apply it to their clinical practice.
