DAVILA F., Roberto; FERNANDEZ A., Víctor; CHAVERA C., Alfonso e DIAZ C., Diego. Frecuencia de displasia de cadera en caninos Rottweiler mayores de un año de edad. Rev. investig. vet. Perú [online]. 2002, vol.13, n.1, pp.32-37. ISSN 1609-9117.
This is a radiographic study for the evaluation of hip dysplasia affecting the coxofermoral joints in Rottweiler dogs older than 1 year old. The study followed the scientific guidelines established by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). Sixty animals, randomly selected were X-rayed and grouped by sex ((30 males and 30 females) and by age (3 groups) for the analysis. The Norberg method was applied to all X-rays. The frequency of coxofermoral dysplasia was 55% (33/60), which was above international expected values. Statistical differences were not found among sexes. Unilateral presentation (31.7%) was mostly found as well as a higher frequency among the 1-1.5 years old group. Furthermore, based on severity and frequency, no evidence was found for left or right dysplasia. It is concluded that the radiographic evaluation is vital for the establishment of a detailed, accurate and definitive diagnosis of coxofermoral dysplasia in dogs, even in animals without clinical signs.
