L., Antonio E. Felipe; ALZOLA B., Paula G.  y  MANCINI Z., Bianca. Morphological characteristics of the embryonic development of the uterus of the coypu (Myocastor coypus). Rev. investig. vet. Perú [online]. 2022, vol.33, n.1, e20687.  Epub 01-Ene-2022. ISSN 1609-9117.  http://dx.doi.org/10.15381/rivep.v33i1.20687.

The aim of this work was to perform the histological characterization of the embryonic development of the uterus of the coypu (Myocastor coypus). Samples from four foetal stages were processed with routine histological techniques and stained with hematoxylin-eosin, picrosirus red and immunolabelled with á-smooth muscle actin. In foetuses 60 days postcoital (dpc), paramesonephric ducts were observed, with a simple cuboidal epithelium. In 90 dpc fetuses, the uterus was regionalized in horns, body and cervix, with a stratified lining epithelium, surrounded by a tunic with two layers of mesenchymal tissue. The endocervical mucosa presented shallow crypts. The uteri of foetuses of 120 and 135 dpc showed a clear distinction of the mucous, muscular and serous tunics. In the 120 dpc uteri the presence of adenogenesis stages was observed. In foetuses of 135 dpc, glands of tubular appearance were identified in the horns and uterine corpus. Collagen fibres were identified in foetuses of 90, 120 and 135 dpc. Immunolocalization of cells with á-smooth muscle actin was observed in 120 and 135 dpc foetuses. Histological differentiation of the uterus is a prenatal phenomenon in coypu unlike traditional laboratory rodents such as mice and rats.

Palabras clave : coypu; foetuses; histology; uterus.
