Abstract

MARTIN-PENA, Daniel; LOPEZ, Debora Cristina  and  FREIRE, Marcelo. Innovation, platformization and training: a challenge for college radio in Spain. Revista de Comunicación [online]. 2023, vol.22, n.1, pp.255-272.  Epub Apr 03, 2023. ISSN 1684-0933.  http://dx.doi.org/10.26441/rc22.1-2023-3088.

This article deals with the relationship between university radio and the new ecology of the media, starting from the analysis of its practices, its contents, its management and the perception of professionals on the use of technology. The main objective is to observe, from the perspective of platformization and innovation, the evolution of these stations over a period of nine years (2013-2021). To achieve this purpose, a methodological cross between an exploratory quantitative analysis of the data and a qualitative analysis of surveys carried out on directors of the stations of the Association of University Radios of Spain (ARU) in 2013 (24) and in 2021 (32). The questions were divided into three axes linked to general aspects, technical issues related to digital media and parameters linked to management and planning. For this, a coding strategy was developed to locate the main arguments presented in the open responses of the sample studied. As main results, it was possible to identify a new stage in which college radios in Spain find themselves, It was found that the radios remain committed to their social responsibility, but face the challenge of innovating in different aspects, of reorganizing their appropriation of digital technologies and practices, of promoting the role of students in the creation of a permanent and stable editorial identity in a context of low investment and a reduced staff structure.
