Abstract

RICHARD, Enrique; FONTURBEL RADA, Francisco  and  GARCIA CRISPIERI, Gonzalo. Conservation objectives of protected area's evaluation from the analysis of home range anf minimun viable populations of felidae and canidae species. Torotoro National Park (Potosi, Bolivia), an example. Ecol. apl. [online]. 2006, vol.5, n.1-2, pp.101-110. ISSN 1726-2216.

The actual relation surface-perimeter of Torotoro National Park (Potosi, Bolivia) was analyzed, and on its basis, minimal required surface's indexes were calculated for Puma concolor, Oreailurus jacobita and Lycalopex culpaeus populations. Data obtained were compared to the current effective conservation surface (47% of the total surface ) and showed a clear deficiency, because the minimum surface required to conserve minimal viable populations of these carnivores is 105 times the Park’s protected surface (166 km2) for P. concolor, 273 times for O. jacobita and 5 times for L. Culpaeus

Keywords : Natural Protected Area; minimal viable population and surface home range; metapopulation; breakness; biodiversity; corridor.
