Abstract

GOMEZ ALFARO, Claudia; PEREA DE LA MATTA, Angel  and  WILLIAMS DE CASTRO, Martha. Reproductive aspects in the Silverside Odontesthes regia regia (Humboldt 1821) from Pisco, Peru, during 1996-1997 and may-july, 2002, related to its conservation. Ecol. apl. [online]. 2006, vol.5, n.1-2, pp.141-147. ISSN 1726-2216.

Administration of fishing resources requires of basic biological information in order to maintain fishing production throughout the time. For this reason, this research was conducted aimed at providing knowledge on reproductive aspects of the Peruvian silverside Odontesthes regia regia that may serve to improve fishing management. 1590 ovaries were processed and analyzed histologically. The results were used in the reproductive cycle description and in the first gonadal maturity and fecundity estimation. The average length and first maturity length were estimated in 15 and 14 cm respectively. Batch fecundity was considered in 1 174 oocytes per batch and relative fecundity in 56 oocytes per gram of weight for the periods of greater reproductive activity (in 1996 and 2003).

Keywords : Peruvian silverside; reproductive cycle; size of first gonadal maturity; fecundity.
