GUTIERREZ FLORES, Ivon Rocío  y  CANALES GUTIERREZ, Ángel. Comparative evaluation of the diversity in relation to altitude of wild flora from the island of Taquile and mount Chiani, Puno, Perú. Ecol. apl. [online]. 2012, vol.11, n.2, pp.39-46. ISSN 1726-2216.

The research was conducted in the Island of Taquile and Mount Chiani, Chucuito, Lake Titicaca peninsula, Puno, Perú, located at 3810 m.a.s.l., from November 2010 to February 2011. The objectives were: 1) Evaluation of the diversity of species of wild flora in the Island of Taquile island and Mount Chiani in relation to altitude, 2) Comparison of the diversity of species of wild flora, from both localities. A cumulative method and zigzagging were applied. Simpson and Shannon indices were used calculated with Krebs software. Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis nonparametric tests were used with Infostat software. In the Island of Taquile, 94 species were registered belonging to 35 families while 93 species belonging to 38 families were found in Mount Chiani. There were no differences in species richness and in the Simpson index among the two study areas (P = 0.3417, P = 0.1120 respectively). According to the different altitudes evaluated in the Island of Taquile, there was no difference in species richness (P = 0.1504), but differences were found in the Simpson and Shannon index (P = 0.0042 and P = 0.0305). On the other hand, in Mount Chiani differences were found in species richness (P = 0.0661) but no difference in species diversity according to Simpson and Shannon index (P = 0.4845 and P = 0.4406) were found. It is concluded that there is greater uniformity of distribution of species in Mount Chiani compared to the Island of Taquile. Also, in Mount Chiani there is a remarkable stratification of species, where shrub species decrease as altitude increases.
