Abstract

GIRALDO MENDOZA, Alfredo Edgardo. Some suggestions for terrestrial arthropods bioassessments in Peru. Ecol. apl. [online]. 2014, vol.13, n.1, pp.57-66. ISSN 1726-2216.

The Peruvian territory has a high orographic, climatological, hydrological, pedological, floristic and faunal diversity. It´s geography is too complex, when looking for field methodologies for the biological assessments that are required in environmental assessment practices. We propose some suggestions for biological assessments of terrestrial arthropod communities in Peru, with emphasis on selection of sampling methods and focal taxa for the fieldwork phase. Such suggestions were obtained by interpreting information from a set of bibliographic references. Tropical eco-regions have climatic characteristics and structural complexity that permit the implementation of most sampling methods with few restrictions. There is also a variety of taxa that can be proposed as focal, due to the high richness found in these eco-regions. By contrast, in the desert and Andean eco-regions it is difficult to suggest efficient sampling methods and focal taxa, due to information gaps.

Keywords : Terrestrial arthropods; bioassesments; sampling mehods; focal taxa; ecological regions; Peru.
