Resumen

CACERES POM, Deybi Karin; CALISAYA VERA, Gisela Milagros  y  BEDOYA-JUSTO, Edgar. Efficiency of Eisenia foetida, Eichornia crassipes and calcium hypochlorite in the depuration of domestic wastewater in Moquegua, Peru. Ecol. apl. [online]. 2021, vol.20, n.1, pp.83-92. ISSN 1726-2216.  http://dx.doi.org/10.21704/rea.v20i1.1692.

The efficiency of three domestic wastewater treatment systems with Eisenia foetida, Eichornia crassipes and calcium hypochlorite in Moquegua was determined. A representative sample of domestic wastewater (tributary) was taken and physical (temperature and STS), chemical (pH and BOD5) and microbiological (thermotolerant coliforms) parameters were analyzed to determine its initial state. This tributary -previous pre-sedimentation process- was treated in three depuration systems: the first with E. foetida, the second with E. foetida + E. crassipes, and the third with E. foetida + E. crassipes + Ca(ClO)2. E. foetida, in turn, was evaluated in function of different irrigation rates: A1 (0.5 [m3/day]/m2), A2 (1 [m3/day]/m2) and A0 (control group: no treatment); E. crassipes was evaluated in function of retention time: B1 (7 days), B2 (14 days) and B0 (control group: no treatment); and Ca(ClO)2 was evaluated in function of C1 (application of calcium hypochlorite) and C0 (control group: no treatment). The effluents were analyzed considering the same parameters as in the tributary, each one with two repetitions, applying the analysis of variance (ANOVA) as a statistical test and the Tukey test. The obtained results showed that there are significant differences between the proposed depuration systems, being determined as the most efficient system to the conformed by E. foetida + E. crassipes, with an average decrease of 5 ºC, 94.48% of total suspended solids, 98.41% of BOD5, 100.00% of thermotolerant coliforms, and a final pH of 7.51.
