Abstract

ZAPATA ORTIZ, Vicente. Modificaciones psicológicas y fisiológicas producidas por la coca y la cocaína en los coqueros. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1944, vol.3, n.2, pp.132-162. ISSN 1726-4634.

The action of coca leaves and cocaine was studied in normal subjects and in coca addicts. 1. In normal subjects cocaine (0.5 to 1.5 mgr. X kgr.) slightly increases the reaction time. 2. In normal subjects cocaine increases the speed performance of the attention test, but at the same time cocaine increases the number of errors. 3. In coca addicts, coca and cocaine (2 to 3 grs. X kgr. and 4 to 6 mgr. X kgr. respectively) increase the reaction time. 4. In coca addicts, coca leaves (2 to 3 gr. X kgr.) shorten both the performance time and the number of errors of the attention test. 5. In coca addicts it was shown that coca leaves increase the body temperature, the range of heart beats, the arterial blood pressure the respiratory movements and the spinal reflexes.
