Abstract

AYULO ROBLES, Víctor M. Estudios sobre Trypanosomiasis americana en el Perú. Observaciones en el departamento de Ica. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1946, vol.5, n.1-4, pp.21-35. ISSN 1726-4634.

The presence of Triatoma has been ascertained in the cities of Ica and Nazca. The Triatoma found in these localities belong to the species Triatoma infestans. Investigation of the intestinal contents of these insects showed that they were not infested. Fact which suggests the insects as coming from the city of Arequipa. Thick smear fresh blood examinations and blood smears stained with the Giemsa technique in 174 persons and 32 animals, as well as Complement fixation tests (GUERREIRO and MACHADO reaction) and skin tests in 174 persons were negative. These results point out the non existence of Chagas' Disease in the Ica area. Since Triatoma have been found in Ica and Nazca and Chagas' Disease in Vitor, Sihuas and Quishuaraní in the Arequipa area, it is not unlikely in a near future that Chagas' Disease might also appear in these areas.
