A survey of intestinal parasitism was made in 1,000 wild rats (Mus norvegicus) captured in the city of Lima, arriving at the following conclusions: 1.- The incidence of intestinal parasitism, among the wild rats examined is 87.30%. 2.- 46.50% of the rodents are carriers of intestinal protozoa. 3.- The incidence of E. histolytica infestation is rather low: 1.7%.  4.- 18.4% of the rats examined carry Blastocystis hominis. 5.- Helminths infestation in the same animals corresponds to 76.40%. 6.- Due to the rather high infestation of wild rats with Hymenolepis nana, Hymenolepis diminuta and Gigantorhynchus moniliformis, these rodents could be considered as potential reservoirs in the transmission of said parasites to man until other studies would confirm or deny its role as reservoir. 7.- Statistical analysis of the frecuency distribution of infestation shows a mean and standard error of 2.11 ± 0.06 different parasites per rat with a coefficient of variation equal to 78%, having as limits the values of 1 and 6 differents parasites per animal.
