Abstract

HERRER, Arístides. Trypanosomiasis americana en el Perú: V. Triatominos del valle interandino del Marañón. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1955, vol.9, n.1-2, pp.69-81. ISSN 1726-4634.

1. There are reported the results of entomological studies carried out in relation to Chagas'Disease in the basin of the River Marañon, between 450 and 2.700 meters above sea level. In these collections, the following species of triatomas were found: Triatoma carrioni, Belminus peruvianus, Panstrongylus chinai and P. herreri.  2. Studies were carried out with specimens of P. herreri and B. peruvianus with the objective of determining whether infection with Trypanosoma cruzi could be demonstrated. Positive results were obtained only with P. herreri. The strain of T. cruzi which infects this insect differs in pathogenicity from those found in other areas of Peru.  3. T. carrioni and P. chinai were rather scarce and at least the latter appears to be markedly rural in its habits.
