Abstract

MENESES, Oswaldo. Incidencia de la distomatosis hepática en los conejos de la ciudad de Lima y alrededores. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1955, vol.9, n.1-2, pp.103-109. ISSN 1726-4634.

In the period between January 22 and August 22, 1954 there was carried out a survey in 538 rabbits raised in Lima and outskirts, in an effort to determine the incidence of infestation by Fasciola hepatica. The sedimentation technique was used in examination of the feces. At the same time as the survey, autopsies were carried out on rabbits dying from various cuases in an effort to find F. hepatica in the liver. The viability of eggs of F. hepatica obtained from feces of parasitized rabbits was al so investigated. From the studies carried out, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1. The presence of Fasciola hepatica in rabbits of Lima and the surrounding area has been confirmed. 2. The incidence of F. hepatica in the rabbits studied has varied between 2.6% and 19.7%, depending on the diet. 3. The eggs of F. hepatica passed in rabbit feces are viable, which indicated the possibility that this animal could act as a reservoir of distomatosis hepatica in the city of Lima.
