VILLA, Manuel; PEREZ, Félix e VARGAS, Raúl. Intradermo reacción a la Histoplasmina entre los escolares de Tingo María. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1956, vol.10, n.1, pp.03-16. ISSN 1726-4634.
In 1955 a survey was made among 696 school children resident in both the urban and rural parts of Tingo María to investigate their histoplasmin and tuberculin reactions in order to ascertain the sensitivity to histoplasmin that possibly could exist in that arca. The findings were the following: 1.- Of the school children of the Tingo María area 41.9 per cent showed a positive reaction to the histoplasmin test. 2.- Of the group showing positive reaction to histoplasmin 51.7 per cent were tuberculin negative. This proportion amounts to 21.7 per cent of the total number of children. 3.- The proportion of children who are sensitive to histoplasmin is evenly distributed throughout the urban and rural area of Tingo María. 4.- The length of residence in the arca has proved to influence the positivity of the histoplasmin reaction; the longer the length of residence the larger the proportion of children who are histoplasmin positive. 5.-. The school children coming from the departments of San Martín and Huánuco (Tingo María arca excluded) have shown the highest proportions of positivity to the test. Based on statistical computations conclusions could be drawn to point to those zones as lilcely contaminated with H. capsulatun. 6.- Whether the "Cueva de las Lechuzas" has a greater influence that the rest of the area in producing sensitization to histoplasmin, has not been proved in this survey. It is suggested that further studies be made to determine the importance of the cave as a factor in the epidemiology of the histoplasmin sensitivity. 7. The whole area surveyed appears to be contamined by the H. capsulatum.
