HERRER, Arístides. Repercusión del uso casero de los insecticidas en la incidencia de la leishmaniasis tegumentaria del perro. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1956, vol.10, n.2, pp.139-145. ISSN 1726-4634.
1. The results of observations made in the Canchacalla Valley in Peru of tegumentary leishmaniasis in dogs are shown. These results are interpreted as being the effects from the domestic use of insecticides with a high toxicity and long residual action against phlebotomus. The observations were made during three periods of time namely, from 1945 to 1948, in 1951 and in 1956. The observed incidence of tegumentary leishmaniasis in dogs for these periods were 56.2, 50.0 and 14.7 per cent respectively . 2. There was a remarkable drop in the incidence in 1956. This drop is interpreted as a result of the domestic use of modern insecticides, due to the fact that no regular programs of insect erradication have been carried out so far in the Valley either by private or official organization. 3. Finally, consideration is given to the fact that some medically important arthropods might be developing resistence to modern insecticides due to the domestic use of said insecticides.
