Abstract
MORALES S., Julio. Control microbiológico de antibióticos: Curvas standard, determinación de potencia y preparación de discos para pruebas de sensibilidad. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1958, vol.12, n.1-2, pp.1-64. ISSN 1726-4634.
1) Stock bacteriological cultures, with different degrees of sensitivity and resistance to the influence of antibiotics, have been established for purposes of control testing. 2) All commercial antibiotics, in their various pharmaceutical forms and which are marketed in Peru, have been tested for activity and potency by the "plate-disc-culture" method, and the standards of "percentage activity" have been established. 3) Using biologically inactive esthers of chloramphenicol, L-chloramphenicol was prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis, and was found satisfactory for microbiological testing. 4) 99.3% of the products complied with the standards of potency as established by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration and the U. S. Pharmacopeia XV. 5) Approximately 65 manufacturing laboratories distribute 315 different pharmaceutical antibiotic products which contain a total of 20 different antibiotics, either singularly or in mixed form. 6) Antibiotic discs have been prepared for 18 antibiotics, and each has been standardized in three concentrations and colors.
