HERRER, Arístides e LICERAS DE HIDALGO, Julia. Leptospirosis en el Perú: III Encuesta serológica en el Mercado Central de Lima. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1960, vol.13, n.1-2, pp.108-112. ISSN 1726-4634.
A serological investigation on leptospirosis has been carried out in 112 men and women working on the old Mercado Central of Lima, where the sewer rat (Rattus norvegicus) had been found heavenly infected by Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae. The agglutination-lysis test was performed with 11 serological strains of leptospira, and the principal results obtained are as follows: 1 . Three sera showed, positive agglutination-lysis reactions with L. canicola in a dilution of 1:100, 1:300 and 1:1,000, respectively. 2. A few sugestive positive reactions were observed using L. icterohaemorrhagiae AB Wijnberg, L. ballum S102, L. hyos and L. pomona S91 antigens, but only in a titer of 1:10. 3. lt is the authors opinion that only a reaction with a serum dilution of at least 1:100 should be considered positive. Therefore none of the human sera tested can be considered positive for leptospira L. icterohaernorrhagiae AB Wijnberg. 4. These results are surprising in view of the high incidence of infection in rats populating this area.
