1. The agglutlination-lysis serological reaction for leptospirosis was conducted on 95 serum samples from a farm located in the costal region of Northern Peru. Fourty one sera were from workman, fifty two from dogs and two from rats (Rattus norvegicus). 2. Using an agglutinating titer of 1:100 or higher as signifying infection, eleven human sera (26.8%) and three dog sera (5.8%) gave positive results. 3 Nine of the 11 positive human sera reacted against the antigen of L. bataviae Van Tienen and the remaining two sera reacted agains, L. pomona antigen. The canine sera reacted against L. canicola Ruebush (two) and L. pyrogenes Salinem (one). 4. The authors tried without success to cultivate leptospira from coagulated blood from both human and canine sources.
