VALVERDE, Ada; ROMERO, Soledad  e  CABEZAS, César. Inmunofluorescencia indirecta como prueba alternativa para la confirmación diagnóstica de infección por VIH en el Perú. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1997, vol.14, n.1, pp.19-21. ISSN 1726-4634.

Since 1990, the National Institute of Health-Peru(INS) has performed the performed the Western blot technique to confirm HIV diagnosis. This study evaluates Indirect Inmunofluorescence test (IFI) as an alternative of confirmation by Western blot. One hundred and thirty-two sera from the Virology Serum Bank at INS previously tested by Western blot were submitted to IFI testing using a kit produced at the AIDS National Reference Center (Chile-Argentina). A total of 56 (42,4%) of the 132 processed sera were Western blot positive, 52 (39,4%) were W. blot negative and 24 (18,2%) were W. blot indeterminate. Sensitivity and specifity of the IFI test as compared to Western blot's was 98,2% and 98% respectively. Positive predective value was 98,2% and negative predictive value was 100%. These results allow us to add the IFI test as an alternate confirmation test for HIV.
