Abstract
BONILLA, César and ZAVALETA, Alfonso. Estudio bioquímico del veneno de la serpiente Bothrops hyoprorus. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1997, vol.14, n.2, pp.18-32. ISSN 1726-4634.
We describe the partial purification of the enzyme phospholipase A of the venom of Bothrops hyoprorus and the characyerization of its hemolytic and cytotoxic activities. Phospholipasic activity was detected in two fractions of 23 and 12 Kd through chromatography in Sephadex G-100 and G-50. Both phospholipasic and hemolytic activities were detected in the described fractions. Western blot essays suggest that the 12 Kbd fraction is an in vitro degradation product of the larger polypeptide. Cytotoxic activity of the fraction was evident only at high concentrations, this suggesting that molecules other than phospholipase A are responsible for the venoms cytotoxic effect.
