CASQUERO, J et al. Nuevos casos de Paracoccidioidomicosis . Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1998, vol.15, n.1-2, pp.12-17. ISSN 1726-4634.

Paracoccidioidomycosis caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis is a chronic infection usually asymptomatic in children. Its geographic distribution is limited to Central and South America. We reported on the clinical and epidemiological characteristics from 06 confirmed cases of paracoccidioidomycosis in the Instituto Nacional de Salud. The fungus was observed by under direct microscopic examination and/or cultures of samples from biopsy or aspirate of glands. Immunodiffusion test were performed in blood samples from 04 cases. All patients came from tropical and semi-tropical areas of the country (Tingo María, Oxapampa, Pucallpa and Chanchamayo) where the rain fall annual average is 1500 mm/year, the relative humidity 82% and the annual temperature is between 28°C and 30°C. All the places are bellow 1814 m. sea level. The main symptomatology found included increase of size of glands and pulmonar tuberculosis. P. brasiliensis was isolated in 2/6 patients and in 4/6 specific antibodies were detected by immunodiffusion test. We concluded that 83% of patients were limphoadenopaties. Laboratory test permit confirmed diagnosis.
