Abstract

OBREGON, George  and  ZAVALETA, Alfonso. Perú: Evaluación de la Calidad de Discos de Sensibilidad Antimicrobiana. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1998, vol.15, n.1-2, pp.18-25. ISSN 1726-4634.

The quality of 24 lots of anti-microbic sensitivity discs of two trade marc was evaluated, on of domestic manufacture and the other of foreign (USA) manufacture, both being marketed in Peru, using the M2-A5 standard of NCCLS. Lots of the following discs are evaluated: 8 Ammoxycillin lactam/Clavulanic Acid 20/10 µg, Ampicillin 1 µp, Cefotaxim 30 µg, Ceftazidim 30 µg, Ceftriaxone 30 µg, Cefuroxim 30 µg, Oxacillin 1 µg, Penicillin 10 UI, as well as lorts of discs non ß-lactams of Nalidixic Acid 30 µg, Amicacin 30 µg, Cuprafloxacin 5 µg, Clindamycin 2 µg, Chloraphenicol 30 pg, Eritromycin 15 µg, Streptomycin 10 µg, Gentamycin 10 µg, Norphloxin 10 µg, Vancomycin 30 µg, against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, using the Kirby-Bauer method. The diameters of the antibiotic inhibition zone obtained experimentally were compared with the values indicated in the standard, using for this purpose, the Proof of Reliability Limits. The results show that only 50% of the total lots of discs evaluated, satisfactorily comply with the standard requirements. Furthermore, 66,7% of the foreign manufacturers' discs complied with these requirements. On analyzing 50% of the lots of national and foreign manufactured discs (Amycacin, Streptomycin and Gentamycin) using the Proof of Hypothetic Means showing similar behavior, only the foreign manufactured Gentamycin discs complied with the standard M2-A5. The great proportion of the lots of discs evaluated, obtaining non-conforming results, indicated the need to carry out a greater number of evaluations in order to know the real situation of the quality of antimicrobic sensitive discs available in Peru, due to its particular importance in clinical diagnosis.
