Abstract

GUERRERO, I et al. Oncogenes E6-E7 de los Papilomavirus Humanos de alto riesgo detectados por PCR en Biopsias de pene incluidas en parafina. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 1999, vol.16, n.1-2, pp.40-43. ISSN 1726-4634.

The high prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) reported worldwide in genital lesions of both sexes, the role of males as passive reservoirs of the virus and the increased mortality due to genital cancer among women in our country led to the detection and correlation of high risk HPV oncogenes with penile neoplasia. We reported ten cases of penile squamous cell carcinoma, paraffin-embedded, which were tested for the presence of HPV high risk E6-E7 oncogenes, using type-specific primers for HPV-16 and HPV-18 by means of polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The 40% of the cases showed an amplification product of E6-E7 DNA of the HPV studies, corresponding 75% of them to simple dectection by HPV-18 and the 25% presented mixed detection by E6-E7 DNA of HPV-16 and HPV-18 simultaneously. the amplification product was submited to restriction analyses. The prevalence of E6-E7 oncogenes of the high risk HPV-DNA obtained using the highly sensitive method of PCR, support the role of this virus in the process of carcinogenesis of the penile neoplasia.

Keywords : Oncogenes; papillomavirus, human; penis; reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction.
