Abstract

Objective: Between september 13 and september 17, 1999, collections of Phlebotomines in San Pedro, distric of Kosñipata, province of Paucartambo, department of Cusco were performed, in order to find out the dimensity of species. Materials and methods: Phlebotomines were collected using: a) ligth tramp (CDC), placed inside and outside houses b) by means of human bait, inside and outside of the houses. Results: Five species of Phlebotomines were captured belonging to 5 species: Lutzomyia (Helcocyrtomyia) guderiani, 71%; Pintomyia (Pifanomyia) tocaniensis, 23%; Pintomyia (Pifanomyia) saupiensis, 3%; Psathyromyia (Forattiniella) abuanensis, 2% and Psathyromyia (Forattiniella) aragaoi, 1%. Three species are recorded for the first time in Peru. Conclusions: The geographical distribution of Lu. guderiani, P. tocaniensis and P. saupiensis is wider than previous description from 16°06 LS y 67°44 LW (Yungas, La Paz, Bolivia) to 13°03'19" LS y 71°32'48" LW (San Pedro, Cusco, Perú). Three among the 5 species could transmit tegumentary leishmaniasis and/or verruga peruana (enfermedad de Carrión).
