Resumen CABEZAS SANCHEZ, César. Hepatitis virales B y delta: epidemiología y prevención en el Perú. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica, jul./set 2002, vol.19, no.3, p.150-161. ISSN 1726-4634. Viral hepatitis B and Delta epidemiology in Peru is described, highlighting its dissimilar prevalence according to geographical areas that however due to the intense internal migration tend to be more similar every time. Moreover different transmission mechanisms from classically reported in the literature are mentioned, as well as the consequences of chronic infection; hepatic cirrhosis and hepatocarcinoma. Finally, the interventions for the prevention of the HBV by means of pilot programs of immunization integrated to the enlarged program of immunizations (EPI) are described. Their impact in the reduction of the prevalence rates in hyperendemic areas intervened, are showed, that derived in the incorporation of the vaccine against HBV in the EPI of the Ministry of Health of the Peru.
