GLENNY A, Martha; MENDOZA U, Leonardo and FALCONI R, Eduardo. Detección de anticuerpos contra Borrelia burgdorferi e identificación de garrapatas ixodidas en Piura Y Amazonas, Perú. Rev Peru Med Exp Salud Publica [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.1, pp.23-27. ISSN 1726-4634.
Objective: To detect IgG/IgM antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi in persons coming from the Piura and Amazonas departments, and to identify tick species probable related with Lyme's disease transmission. Material and methods: Between August 2001 and June 2002, blood samples were collected from 232 persons from eight sites in Piura and from twelve sites in Amazonas, in order to determine the presence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi using serological testing. An ELISA Captia Lyme IgG/IgM Trinity Biotech was used. Tick collection in domestic animals was directly performed. Results: Positive results for the aforementioned antibodies were found in 9,9% of the sera assessed. Also, 433 ticks of five genuses: Ixodes (5,5%), Amblyomma (18,01%), Rhipicephalus (23,5%), Anocentor (31,1%) and Boophilus (21,7%) were collected from domestic animals in seven sites in Piura and in three sites in Amazonas. Conclusions: There are persons seropositive for Borelia in Piura and in Amazonas, these results are similar to the findings at Sapillica reported in 1992. Also, ticks from the Ixodes genus were detected in Piura.
