Dengue is the most important arbovirosis in public health; in 1990 its reappearance in Peru and it is present in the Amazon region and North Coast of the country, including, recently Lima. In this article aspects are approached on the history, physiopathology, entomology, surveillance and control, emphasizing the contributions of the Instituto Nacional de Salud (INS), for the control of the dengue in Peru, entity that has fulfilled an important role in the effort for controlling to dengue, across researches and incorporating progressively in the national net of laboratories, techniques of diagnosis from the ELISA for the detection of antibodies, the viral isolation and lately the RT-PCR and the genotyping, this way also in the entomological area, for the monitoring of the presence of the Aedes aegypti, its susceptibility to insecticide and new techniques for this intention.
