Resumen

LOVERA, Amanda; BONILLA, César  y  HIDALGO, Jack. Efecto neutralizador del extracto acuoso de Dracontium loretense (JERGÓN SACHA) sobre la actividad letal del veneno de Bothrops atrox. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 2006, vol.23, n.3, pp.177-181. ISSN 1726-4634.

Objective: Determine the capability of D. loretense (jergon sacha) watery extract to neutralize the lethal activity from B. atrox snake venom. Materials and methods: Fitochemical screening was conducted on the watery extract of the D. loretense dried bulb. The lethal dose was calculated at 50 (DL50) for the extract and venom from B. atrox. After that, challenges with varying doses of the extract and the venom injected intraperitoneally in mice after incubation in order to calculate the efficacious dosis 50% (DE50) of the extract to neutralize the lethal effect of the venom through the Probits method. Result: Fitochemical testing of the extract allowed for the identification of fenolic compounds, taninos, saponinas, proteins, terpenoides and steroids. None of the mice which received the venom without D. loretense survived and none of the mice which received the D. loretense watery extract died. DE50 was determined in 91,15 µg/mouse from the extract to neutralize 2DL50 of the venom. It was noted that the larger the B. atrox venum, the smaller the dose of D. loretense watery extract. Conclusions: D. loretense watery extract neutralizes the lethal activity from the B. atrox venum. Further studies are needed to identify the extract metabolites which have this action.
