Abstract

RAMOS PADILLA, Miguel. La salud sexual y la salud reproductiva desde la perspectiva de género. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 2006, vol.23, n.3, pp.201-220. ISSN 1726-4634.

This assay aims at introducing gender in the analysis of the health, disease and medical care process in the field of sexual and reproductive health. Gender is considered a valuable input to reveal a series of components, which although closely related to class and ethnic origin, have a dynamics and a relatively autonomous capability to explain reality. Gender is not only a determining aspect of inequity but also an explicative axel of many factors involved in getting sick and dying for many men and women. In the first place, we present the most important implications of social inequity due to gender and gender differences in sexual and reproductive health for Peru. In the second place, an analysis is conducted on the importance of conceiving males and involving them as subjects entitled to rights and with specific needs in health and reproduction, in discussion with the position of the International Population and Development Council in Cairo and the sexual and reproductive health implications of men in women’s health. In the third place, the winding road of the public policies regarding sexual and reproductive health is analyzed, and in this aspect, the right of people and gender equality from the above mentioned Conference. Lastly, the presentation ends with some proposals for sexual and reproductive health policies with a gender perspective.
