Abstract

BILBAO, Mariana L; MANA S, María Olga  and  MURUA B, Fernando. Evaluation of the insecticidal effect of diatomaceous earth on Triatoma infestans (Hemiptera, Reduviidae). Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 2007, vol.24, n.2, pp.179-181. ISSN 1726-4634.

Triatoma infestans its principal vector of Chagas disease in Argentina. The diatomaceous earth (DE) is a natural product that is trading as insecticide and it to kill for deshidratation. To evaluate the insecticide efficacy of DE 60% from The Iglesiana mine (San Juan, Argentina) against nymphs from 5th instar and adults of T. infestans. Two doses 112,5 g/m2 (T1) and 225 g/m2 (T2) were evaluated. From each experimental and control treatments (Tc) four replicates randomized were made. Living and dead triatomines through five days were registered daily. No differences in the mortality (ANOVA, p >0,05) in adults (T1: 40%, T2: 25% y Tc: 30%) or nymphs from 5th instar (T1: 10%, T2: 15% y TC: 10%) were found. In conclusion, the diatomaceous earth from La Iglesiana mine had not insecticide capacity under the condition of present study.
