Abstract
URIBE-BARRETO, Alfonzo; URIBE-LEON, Mónica and PENA-OSCUVILCA, Américo. Endoscopic findings in patients with bronchiectasis an endemic zone of tuberculosis. Rev. perú. med. exp. salud publica [online]. 2008, vol.25, n.2, pp.253-256. ISSN 1726-4634.
Bronchiectasis is a common disorder in Peru due to its presence as tuberculosis sequel. It describes the most common findings in the flexible bronchoscopy in 101 patients previously diagnosed with bronchiectasis by chest X-ray and CT-scan in a general hospital from Lima. Most patients had a history as pulmonary tuberculosis (80%) and presented hemoptysis (67%) as a cause of consultation. The most significant finding the bronchoscopy were frequent in the deformation of the bronchial lumen by dilations and constrictions (100%), access of the bronchoscopy (6.0 mm of diameter) beyond the bronchi segment (98%), the coalescence of tracheal rings (97%) and longitudinal striations (13.9%). The first three findings must be considered as a proposal to determine the criteria for endoscopic diagnosis of this entity.
