Abstract

GUEVARA TIRADO, Alberto. Frequency of healthcare visits to the general medicine service, by sex, in the district of Villa El Salvador, Lima-Peru. Horiz. Med. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.2, e1586.  Epub July 07, 2022. ISSN 1727-558X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.24265/horizmed.2022.v22n2.09.

There is a perception that women visit the general practitioner's office more frequently than men. This study aims to determine the differences between men and women regarding the frequency of healthcare visits to the general medicine service in private medical centers. The sample consisting of 1,144 adults over 18 years of age from the district of Villa El Salvador was collected from July 2020 to July 2021. It was found that 777 (67.9 %) women and 467 (32.1 %) men attended an appointment. Therefore, it is concluded that women visit the general practitioner's office more frequently than men. It is necessary to assess what factors affect this difference and whether there is any epidemiological and public health impact.
