Objective: To identify the frequency of violence to physicians; features and perception triggers in three hospitals in Arequipa- Peru, 2016. Materials and methods: descriptive, cross-sectional study enrolled 200 physicians for non-probability sampling. The frequency of physical, psychological and sexual harassment violence was measured using the questionnaire of the International Labour Organization. the characteristics of the last incident was assessed, and socio-demographic aspects; as well as the perception of precipitating factors. Results: Most were men (59.5%), 14.5% were older than 50 years, 60% corresponded to clinical specialties. 84% reported having ever experienced violence in their life, 47% last year and 16% in the last month. 6% he suffered physical violence and 4% sexual harassment. The main aggressor was a family (43.5%) or accompanying of the patient (25.6%). Only in three cases (1.8%) proceeded to investigate the event, most did not report for thinking it would be useless to do so (29.5%) or not knowing who to report (26.7%). Triggering factors considered is the waiting time (52.2%) and that the demand exceeds the possibilities for doctors (57.4%). Conclusion: Violence against physicians is common in hospitals in Arequipa, it is not notified, needs to be prevented and fully serviced. The perceived factors contributing to violence against physicians are linked to the characteristics of the workplace.
