Abstract

Prevalence of arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2, chronic renal disease and obesity in an urban population of the districts of Carabayllo, Comas and Independencia in the years 2014 and 2015. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of hypertension, diabetes mellitus type 2, chronic kidney disease, overweight and obesity in an adult urban population of districts Carabayllo, Comas and Independencia, and its associations with personal and family variables. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study, with accidental sampling of outpatient population of the Cono Norte in Lima. Results: The prevalence of overweight was 46.3%; obesity 18.1%; hypertension 11.6%; diabetes mellitus type 2, 5.0% and chronic kidney disease 1.0%. Obesity was associated with the level of education (p<0,001). Univarite analysis showed statistical association between body mass index and diabetes mellitus type 2 (odds ratio (OR): 2.05 (95% confidence interval (95% CI): 1.09-3.83) and with received medical care in the past year (OR:1.49; 95% CI: 1.17-1.90). Diabetes mellitus type 2 was associated with level of education (p<0,001). Conclusion: In the Cono Norte, overweight and obesity have high prevalence and were associated with a low level of education. The chronic kidney disease was only associated with having a family member with the same diagnostic.
