Objective: To determine the annual survival rate of patients hospitalized in the medicine ward of the emergency service in Cayetano Heredia Hospital in Lima, Peru. Materials and methods: This is an observational, longitudinal, descriptive, and analytical study that included patients seen in the emergency ward of Cayetano Heredia Hospital. The following variables were considered: age, sex, educational level, place of birth and origin of the patients, as well as their diagnosis at discharge. The cutoff points for assessing survival were days 30, 150, and 365. The outcome event was being dead or alive. Results: The study included 554 patients who had a 24.4% gross lethality rate. Overall survival rates of the cohort were 86%, 80%, and 76% at 30, 150, and 365 days, respectively. When performing the multivariate logistic regression test and Cox regression, age and some pathological conditions were found to have a significant influence on survival (p<0.001). Conclusions: The one-year survival rate was 76%. Age and some comorbidities, such as oncological, respiratory and hematological diseases, were associated to the lethality rate of patients hospitalized in the emergency ward of Cayetano Heredia Hospital
