Abstract

ESTRADA ESTRELLA, Aldo; ACOSTA BARRIGA, Joshi  and  CATACORA VILLASANTE, Manuel. Scientific production and collaboration networks in Peruvian Social Security, a bibliometric analysis in Scopus 2008-2017. Acta méd. Peru [online]. 2019, vol.36, n.2, pp.116-123. ISSN 1728-5917.

Objective: To describe the scientific output from Peruvian Social Security (EsSalud) featured in Scopus indexed journals and their collaboration networks, for the period 2008-2017. Materials and methods: All articles published in Scopus-indexed journals were considered if they had an author affiliated to EsSalud during the 2008-2017 period. We obtained the following data from all Scopus indexed publications: author’s name, title, name of the first author affiliated to EsSalud, its authorship position, year of publication, name and language of the journal, specialty of the author and his/her affiliation. Results: Six-hundred and eleven papers were retrieved. EsSalud researchers were first authors in 45% of papers, and most of them (61%) were original papers. The EsSalud area with the highest scientific production was Edgardo Rebagliati-Martins National Hospital, with 269 papers, and the medical specialty with the highest publication rate was Gastroenterology with 95 papers. Regarding collaboration networks, EsSalud had relationships with 73 local institutions and 41 countries. Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia was the institution which had the most frequent collaboration activities with EsSalud. On the other hand, United States was the country that had more collaboration activities with EsSalud. Conclusion: Scientific production from EsSalud featured in Scopus-indexed journals has experienced an important growth in recent years. Studies from collaborative networks show that EsSalud now has a more intense collaboration with universities in Lima, Peru, as well as with different countries in the Americas.
