ANGUIANO SERRANO, Sandra A.; VEGA VALERO, Cynthia Zaira; NAVA QUIROZ, Carlos  e  SORIA TRUJANO, Rocío. Social abilities in adolescents, university students and alcoholics in recovery in a group of alcoholics anonymous (AA). liber. [online]. 2010, vol.16, n.1, pp.17-26. ISSN 1729-4827.

Among the risk factors for alcohol use initiation is the deficit in social skills, which while not conclusive, if it is a factor that somehow influences the behavior of excessive drinking. In the present study it conducted an analysis of social skills in three different samples: college, young people and alcoholics in recovery (AA). The following instruments were used: Multidimensional Scale of Social Expression-Motor Part (EMES-M: Horse, 1987) and Multidimensional Scale of Social Expression-Cognitive Part (EMES-C: Caballo, 1987). These scales were applied to a sample of 157 participants (74 men and 83 women) and they were distributed as follows: 58 adolescents (high school students), 55 members of AA and 44 college students. Significant differences were found between some subscales and different reference groups. Most of these differences were found in terms of cutting social cognitive skills. The group of alcoholics AA made the difference, showing them a higher score on the subscales that indicate «fear» or «concern» in certain social situations. We discuss these findings and their implications for treatment and prevention of alcoholism.
