The scientific study of positive emotions during childhood is a recently and less explored issue in the psychology literature although they work as protective factors in adversity situations, which allow the construction of better adaptive coping mechanisms, improve health and contribute to the increasing of the psychological resources and well-being (Fredrickson, Cohn, Coffey, Finkel, Kimberly & Pek, 2008; Holder & Coleman, 2008). In this way it is necessary to identify, enhance and foster psychological resources to the development of child mental health protective factors for the mental health promotion programs. This paper exposes the recent theory about positive emotions, their importance and enclosing in the mental health promotion program for the promotion of positive and healthy development during childhood.
