Abstract

DESUQUE, Diego A.; VARGAS RUBILAR, Jael  and  LEMOS, Viviana N.. Psychometric analysis of attitudinal beliefs questionnaire about suicidal behavior in adolescent population from Entre Ríos, Argentina. liber. [online]. 2011, vol.17, n.2, pp.187-198. ISSN 1729-4827.

When working with teenagers that present depressive and/or suicidal ideation symptoms, the evaluation and detection of thoughts oriented to suicide is very important for the mental health professional. Having an instrument that measures youth’s cognition towards suicide is a useful tool for research, prevention and treatment of adolescents with this problematic. However, there is no a psychological test available in our midst that can fulfil this purpose. Considering that psychological assessment´s verbal tests, are sensitive to cultural changes, should be avoided its use outside of context to which they have been designed and validated without a previous study of their operation. The aim of this work was to study the psychometric properties of CCCS-18 (Ruiz Hernández, Navarro-Ruiz, Torrente Hernández, & Rodríguez González, 2006) in argentine population. The Spanish version of this instrument was administered in a sample of 122 individuals from three secondary educational institutions. The average age was 16, 06 years. To evaluate the reliability of the test regarding its internal consistency, Cronbach’s alpha showed a satisfactory value (0.86) for the overall scale. Regarding validity, the Varimax rotation method was used as a factorial analysis, showing a slight difference of factors compared to the original scale. In conclusion, the results indicate that this test has adequate psychometric properties for its administration in argentine population.
