Improved methods of psychometric assessment have facilitated a strong causal correlation between stressful life events and clinical depression. This article reviews the development of this line of research and the new directions, taking into consideration the theoretical framework of Susan Folkman about the co-existence of positive and negative emotions during the experience of stress and depression. The purpose of this study is to present the internal consistency and convergent validity of the Multicultural Inventory of Depression, State-feature (IMUDER), consolidating this new line of research in the psychometric testing of clinical depression. Based on a multicultural exhibition with participants from Latin American countries, it was carried out, based on the correlation coefficient psychometric analysis Cronbach alpha and the correlation coefficient of Pearson, in order to establish convergent validity and internal consistency of the instrument. The results of these analyses performed separately for the State scale and the scale feature, indicate a high level of internal consistency of the items and a high level of Association and convergent validity between the scales of the IMUDER and depression tests used in this study. These data indicate that the IMUDER is a psychometric instrument that presents a solid convergent validity and internal consistency.
