VILCHEZ CHOQUEHUAYTA, Gissela and FRISANCHO HIDALGO, Susana. Beliefs about human rights in college students in Lima. liber. [online]. 2014, vol.20, n.1, pp.141-149. ISSN 1729-4827.
The purpose of this study was to explore the level of information and beliefs about human rights among two groups of college students of a private university in Lima city. One group took the course of «Ethics and Citizenship», here they spoke about human right issues, while the other did not. Through interviews and a questionnaire, students’ beliefs were explored in three areas: a) beliefs about thevalue and importance of human rights; b) beliefs about respect for human rights and human rights violations; c) perception of the course «Ethics and Citizenship». The research shows a clear difference between the groups in terms of the importance andusefulness attributed to human rights as part of their professional training. However, it was identified that in both groups there are some problems at the level of information and certain prejudices regarding the role of human rights education in their development as professionals and citizens were alsoidentified. The article discusses the implications of these findings for a change in beliefs and for human rights education.
