Resumen

FERNANDEZ ARATA, Manuel  y  MERINO SOTO, César. Measuring error around the cutting points in the MBI-GS. liber. [online]. 2014, vol.20, n.2, pp.209-218. ISSN 1729-4827.

In the rating of the MBI-GS results (Maslach Burnout Inventory - General Survey) as its predecessors, we used dimensional interpretations, but also cut-off points for classifying and differentiating the subjects with respect to the presence of the burnout syndrome. However, this use is oriented to the type of tests relating to criteria so that the estimate of the reliability must converge with this type of use. The objective of this study was to estimate the reliability around various cutting points in the MBI-GS (emotional exhaustion, professional effectiveness and cynicism), through Livingston’s K2 coefficient. The participants were 741 subjects of various occupations, from public and private institutions in Lima and other cities. Prior to obtaining the reliability criterion, the unidimensionality was verified, the equivalent model tau, distribution and bimodality of the scores. It was found that the most extreme cut-off points show greater reliability; that the reliability increases in relation to the degree of extremity of the scores; the scores of emotional exhaustion get greater reliability criterion and that cynicism gets the lowest, but all the scores generally show good reliability. This paper discusses the use of the cut-off points in relation to their validity and reliability.

Palabras clave : Cut-off points; burnout; MBI-GS; reliability; diagnosis; criterion-referenced tests.
