Abstract

This review article covers the phytochemical research on nine species of Werneria genus. 108 chemical constituents have been isolatated or detected by several authors. They be long to several classes of metabolites such as diterpenoids (mostly ent-kaurenes), phenolics (p-hydroxyacetophenones, benzofurans, benzopyrans), alkaloids (pyrrolizidines, β-carbolines), among others. About 21.30% of them are reported for the first time.  Werneria genus (Asteraceae Family) comprises forty species growing in South America. Recently some ofthem were re-classified within Xenophylum genus. Thirty species are found in Perú.
