Abstract

CABRERA, Julieta; LOPEZ, Alcides  and  SANTIAGO, Julio. 2-propanol effect in the synthesis of ag nanoparticles using gamma radiation. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2008, vol.74, n.4, pp.323-331. ISSN 1810-634X.

Colloidal silver nanopartic1es were obtained by gamma radiation from aqueous solutions of AgNO3. 2-propanol has been used as radical scavenger and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as stabilizers. Silver nanoparticles were evaluated by UV- Visible spectroscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy. It has been observed that the concentration ofisopropanol is very important in the formation of the nanoparticles. Ifthe 2-propanol concentration is not enough sil ver oxide, start to be formed. Also, it has been observed that the size and forms of nanoparticles are strongly influenced by the type of polymer as well as of its concentration. The size of nanoparticles obtained using PVP and concentrations of alcohol between 2 and 6 M oscillate around 25 nm, with a narrows size distribution for the majority of cases. Nevertheless nanorods, 18 to 90 nm, were obtained using PVAand alcohol concentrations between 0,1 and 0,4 M which would correspond mainly to silver oxide, according to the electrons diffraction analysis. With 1 % PVA solutions it has been observed the formation ofsilvernanorods.
