Abstract
FUENTES YALLI, Lina Belén and PASTOR DE ABRAM, Ana. Preparation, characterization and chitosan films evaluation from giant squid "Dosidicus gigas" for medical use. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2009, vol.75, n.1, pp.3-11. ISSN 1810-634X.
The objective of this study was to develop chitosan films from of squid giant "Dosidicus gigas" waste, and to evaluate their physical, mechanical, biocompatibility and bioadhesive properties as wound dressings. The mechanical properties, bioadhesives, degree of water vapor transmission (TVA) and biocompatibility were studied according to NCh 1151.0f76 chilean and international standards ASTM D 5458-95,ASTM D 1653-93 and ASTM F 719 -81, respectively. The film chitosan-NaOH and chitosan-alginate complex showed low irritation, as well as adequate permeability, which makes them suitable for use as wound dressings.
