SUN-KOU, María del Rosario  e  LAZO, José Carlos. Study of strength ionic effect in adsorption of phenol with organopmlic clays: Equilibrium and kinetic. Rev. Soc. Quím. Perú [online]. 2009, vol.75, n.1, pp.17-25. ISSN 1810-634X.

The effect of the ionic strength on the adsorption of phenol by organophilic clays and the kinetic ofreaction were studied. It was evaluated the sorption capacity ofthree organophilic clays -they were obtained by cationic interchange with ammonium salts- in presence ofNaCl. Adsorption isotherms were obtained in the range 50-800 ppm of phenol concentration and the amount ofsalt in the solution ranged between 2-20 % (w/v). All bentonites exchanged with the organic cations reported a higher adsorption ofphenol than the one obtained with unmodified bentonite. In all the cases, phenol adsorption onto organoclays increased with the concentration of ionic salt in solution. Bentonite interchanged with tetramethylarnmonium (TMA) and hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA) showed greater adsorption capacities with maximum adsorption percentage of76 and 72%, respectively. Conclusively, the kinetics study demonstrated a strong correspondence with the pseudo second order mechanism for the three organoclays.
